"Ghost Tree"

Atop the mounded hill
I soak the acid horizons
I grew from the seed of love
I reach, yet I am grounded
Rich, red soil holds me tight
Loveless, harsh wind
separates the joy-leaves
and keeps my strongest branches
Doubt- the drought
and tiny bugs
bore and bore
from outside, in
Colour fades my leather-skin
Sun-bleached dry
I am the ghost tree.
